well my 10 bolt rear housing is cracked and im in a bind because the truck is in the shop and needs a new axle

i hadnt planned on doing a 3/4 swap for a bit but im in a jam so i have a few questions.

what would i need to convert my front 10 bolt front to 8 lug?

and would a 15 inch rim fit without shaving the caliper?

i found a 14 bff with 3.73's for a good price and my 10 bolt is 3.73 so i figured to make it easy on myself i would just swap the 14bolt in and put 8 lug hubs on

for a blazer on 35's with occasional wheeling, will the 10bolt be ok

to convert to 8 lug you need the spindles, backing plates, rotors and wheel hub from the 8 lug axle

A 15" rim might fit over the 8 lug caliper without grinding. My understanding is that the grinding for 3/4 ton swap is very minimal anyways.

10 bolt front turning 35's should be fine

If you want to make sure no grinding is needed get some shallow backspacing rims, no more than 3", I think the standard is 2.5" or 4.25" so go with 2.5"

On the 15" rims are we talking aluminum or steel? Steel rims with the 10b front require minimal grinding if any, while aluminum might not fit without grinding into the piston on the caliper.

Didn't somebody else post this question two days or so ago, and also a week ago, and then 4 times last month.........sorry, just busting your chops. To be honest, it's not really the continuous posts asking the exact same questions that gets old, but rather the "inaccurate" advice given.

- Converting front 10-bolt from 6-lug to 8-lug using 10-bolt parts - you do NOT need spindles, they are exactly the same. The only time you get into different spindles is that some early Dana 44's had different spindles.

- Yes, yes, yes....you can make a 15" 8-lug wheel work by grinding the front brake calipers. "Standard" backspacing is around 4.25-4.5" and requires a moderate amount of caliper grinding. Dozens if not hundreds of people on this board have done this (including myself in the past) with no issues. You can get "reverse backspaced" rims with around 2.5-2.75" that should require no grinding, but will cause the rim to stick out more.

- Aluminum vs. steel 15" 8-lug rims.....don't know why somebody brings this up every time this question comes up. Unless somebody proves me otherwise, there are NO 15" 8-lug aluminum rims so it's a moot point (disclaimer: I've heard Weld would make a custom 15" 8-lug aluminum rim back in the '80's).

Just as I mentioned in the PM's we had going back and forth. Your spindles should be fine. Alao, I have tried to find nice "bling" 8 lug aluminum rims to no avail. I'd like to go to 17" rims but in the mean time I am going to get a cheap set of black steelies in 15" to still use my newish BFG AT's. Let me know if you are still interested in my 8 lug parts.
