3/4 ton 14bff and D44 axle tube diameter.

hey, can someone run out to their pre88 (i think that's the year split) and find out what the diameter of the axle tubes are for these axles (i have '78 running gear, just in case i'm wrong on the year splits. I need to go pick up some ubolts and ubolt/spring mounting plates, but my truck is an hour away from me so i can't go check before i go to get the bolts/plates. thanks!

IIRC, it's 3 3/8" dia.

I dont have a caliper to measure with, but the 14bff has a bigger tube than the 44.

is that for both the 14b and d44 diameters? i didn't think they were same.

the 14ff is 3-3/8" tube diameter, and IIRC the 44 is 3", but don't quote me on the 44

Muddytazz - do you know of any good places around here that can do the u-bolts and mounting plates for me? i'm having trouble finding anything - places can do the u bolts but not the plates, or plates and not the bolts, but either way whatever places can do either are not in the same city and its drivng me nuts. i want to get my 3/4 ton gear under my truck today after installing my lift - and on behalf of my poor planning i'm struggling to get this ever so minor detail in order.

Try calling a junkyard for the plates. That's what I did, $30. Or they are $19 a piece from GM parts.

I have a set of u-bolts infront of me right now, the smaller size for the 10b/d44(I believe are the same size) is 2 7/8" and the biger one is 3 9/16".

The center to center on the small one is 3 3/8" and the big one is 4 1/8"

The 14BFF ubolt is 3 9/16" and the center to center is 4 1/4"

i tried the junk yards i have avail. to me around here and they wanted something like $50 for just the rearend - i'm not too keen on that.

it won't help you today, but I got my u bolts from here

IIRC they were $27 shipped to my door for my 14bff and 10b/d44.

d44 75 and older- 2.75"
d44 76 and newer and 10 bolt- 3" with a 3.5" at the pig.
