I picked up some axles saturday. The quy said to come get them. He was tired of moving them around. Can you say FREE!!!!:D

Front 10 bolt:
I pulled the diff cover to inspect the gears. If my math is correct thier 4:10. Diff was full of fluid and the teeth all look good. I compared the 3/4 ton ring gear to a 1/2 ton 10-bolt ring gear and the 3/4 one is massivly thick in comparison.

I have a question. Is the weak link in the 3/4 ton still the axle shafts?

I haven't pulled it all apart yet to compare the axle shafts in the 3/4 ton to the 1/2 ton.

I won't be installing a locker.

Any thing else I should do to this axle other than rebuild it?

I haven't looked at the gears in the 14ff yet.

I plan on doing the rear caliper swap and replacing all the bearing and seals. The guy even gave me new bearings for it. He said it shouldn't need them but, just in case gave them to me for FREE.

I think I"m going to lincoln loc this one. I'm trying to build these on the cheap. Maybe one day a Detriot, but not now.

Spring perches measured 45 1/2" outside to outside. Will I need to move them to line up with the rear springs? It's too cold to lay under the blazer and measure right now.

Let me know what you think. Any constuctive advice is welcome.

Thanks, Bruiser

The 41 and 10 mark on the ring gear tell you that it has 4.10 gears. The thicker ring gear has nothing to do with strength, the teeth are the weak part.

Yep, 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton 10 bolts and dana 44's use the same shafts, u-joints, hubs etc. The only real difference is bigger rotors and the 8 lug wheel mounting pattern.
