so I just got my Dana 60 and 14 bolt. the brake rotors are kinda worn on the 60 and I might as well replace them. while wandering around the web I came across this page on doing a 3/4 ton conversion on the front.

http://www.azrockcrawler.com/_images/tech/2005/10-14-0534tonbrakes/34tonbrakeconv.html

has anyone done that? Does it work on GM Dana 60 front axles? would it be worth my time? can I just use the same discs and calipers on the front that I will be using to convert my 14 bolt?

lots of brake work to do here. might as well do it all at the same time.

According to Sam's site where the bracket came front it states for GM 60 front, therefore I would say it should work.

thay offer kits for this on each brand of axle yes.

but you loose the huge and thick dana 60 brake rotors / calipers for masive stopping power. yes you gain clearence for 15" rims bu still need to gring a bit to clear.

if you dont have rims /tires yet get the right stuff and keep the dana 60 size stuff. nothin like stoping on a dime and getting lots of change back. :D

and yes 1/2-3/4 ton calipers are used on rear disk conversion kits. with 3/4 ton gm front rotors. if parking brake requierd = 2 years only rare caddy calipers that dont hold the best so grab a driveline ebrake kit.

there is pros and cons to both so figure out your needs and make a choice from there.

Just grind your 60 calipers...It's not that bad especially if you get low backspacing. The 60s brakes are so much better. Even when I lost my low/reverse clutch (no engine braking) and had to come down 4 miles of steep mountain, the brakes on my 60 never got hot enough to notice any fade. That was with 40" Pitbulls and on slick ice too.

I've come down that same trail in an XJ on 35"s with stock brakes, and about halfway down you no longer get to stop without planning ahead 10 feet...that really made me appreciate good brakes.
