Ok So ive been searching round the area for quite some time now and really havent found any decent 1tons rears. but i did stumble across a 3/4 ton front and rear i can pickup cheap.

anyone have like them? if you do have them was it a wise purchase or if you did it again would you hold out and opt for a dana 60 and 14ff? what lift , tires are you running with your 3/4?

I wana replace the 1/2 tons that are under my blazer now for some more strength. havent broke them yet but im sure it wont be long.

sorry for so many questions just wana get as much info as possible before i go spending money

i know you easterner's talk different, so by rears are you asking about front axles or rear axles?

I just got back from picking up my 3/4 ton axles, i voted for 3/4 ton because you can get the 14bff in the rear out of them and they bolt directly into any 1/2 ton, the 1 tons you have to reweld on new spring perches and stuff they say. for the 14bff anyway

paid $300 for 14bff 10b 8lug, delivered from Kansas city to Joplin, Mo

just my thoughts

later on down the road get the d60 front

Running a 14 SF. 35" MT/R soon to be 37" Creepy Crawlers. Replaced axle shafts with 6 Lug Moly's, Disk Brakes and also running a Eaton E-locker. Easy install and never had a problem.

Do you know if it's a 14bsf or 14bff? They both came in the rear of 3/4 tons, and the front is going to be basically the same as the one you're running now, just 8-lug instead 6-lug, unless it has flat top knuckles.

The only difference between a 3/4 ton and 1 ton 14ff is spring pad spacing and shock mounts. You will need a 3/4 ton rear if you want a direct swap into a 73-87 (91 for blazer and subs) as the spring pad spacing is 42.5" and the shock mounts are in the correct location. The 1 ton version has 40.5" spring pad spacing and the shouck mounts are opposite of the 3/4 ton. The D60 front only came in 1 ton trucks from 79-87 (91 for the old body style like crew cams and such).

I payed $100 for a 3/4-ton Dana 44 and 14BFF. I also had to take them out of the truck my self and they needed new seals and U-Joines in the front. Gears were good and they run great now. Put a 2 inch lift on it, converted the rear to discs and painted them up nice! Also new shocks ended up spending about $2250 all summer fixing them up, and that includes tools I didnt have.

And brake drums are different sizes, too.

3/4 ton ran two different sizes. 11" and 13", both with narrow shoes.

1 tons ran 13" x 3.5" wide shoes.

like your situation i found ad eal for 3/4 tons with leaves and tires/wheels.. guna mess around with the leaves, then the tires/wheels i've tried to sell but used them when building the truck

a 6" lift.
i bought the 14 bolt sf with d44 front (8lug)

and i'm running 37x14 iroks for mud, light trail and road.

You dont have a 1 ton 14b or Eaton or Dana 70 voting option. ???:doah:

Sorry only can list so many on the poles! talk to the mod's.

If i decide to go with the 3/4 axles (for those who dont know what rears are:haha:) and the dana 44 front is the same as my 1/2 then i could just get the 14sf and remove the front hubs off the yard truck and convert mine, or would you suggest taking the whole front axle?

Depends on if the 14sf has matching gears to your front.

get the whole thing, i had a 6 lug 44 as well, but gearing and everything, it just isn't worth the effort unless your dead positive you havethe same gears and yours is in better condition? unfortunately my new 44 has bad ball joints which i have to replace once i have the money..make sure you check every single thing..

keep your 6 lug and strip it for parts (axle shafts and whatever else you can) for spare and then sell or scrap the rest.

3/4 ton 10bolt front welded with 4.10's and 37" Krawlers. rear is a 14 boltFF with 4.10 and detroit don't know if its 3/4 or 1 ton guess I need to measure.

Front shafts have been upgraded to chrome moly and have crossover, hydro assist and 4 wheel disc. Work fine for me so far. Do what you can for now get spares and save for a 60 at some point that's my plan.
