1986 K5 with a 5.3 completely rebuilt with custom cam. I am running a 4L60E with 2800 stall speed convertor from PTC. Horsepower is estimated at 420 by engine builder. I plan on a 33 12.50 17 tire. Should I run a 3.73 or a 4.11 rear end gears. Thanks for any input.

If you want to have the power you gained to stay the stock ration equivalent would require 4.10, you won't even need to adjust the speedometer

4.56's is the correct answer here. 2100 rpm cruising on the highway, and room to install 35's or even 37's later. Sure you don't think you will right now, but...you will.

Can you tell me how to get my name off of the profile? Please?
Pm mrk5 and tell him.
You will need a username instead so think of one then tell him to replace your name with the username that you give him

You gave him the correct answer to a ck5 question, I gave him the answer to the actual question he asked:)
Everybody here assumed that no one can be moderate, I just replaced my 1/2 ton axles on my suburban that I use every day for towing dd and going to the snow, i went from 3.73 with 33" it's how I bought it, to 4.10 and 33" and power came back plus the speedometer runs accurate again.
I will not change this one.
I will on the other that I will be overlanding

The answer is opinion at best. In my opinion, 4.56's are going to be the better long term solution that allows for larger tires later while being really good with 33's right now. Seeing as the question of gearing was in a K5 I leaned towards wheeling, and the inevitable 'need' for larger tires. That's not being hard core, that's planning for the future. Besides, who can really be more "moderate" than a Moderator? :D
