real quick guys I am set to pick up a 3.73 front to match my rear.. I took my rear cover off and it had 11 41 013 1.. is that 3.73? And why does the guys front say 41 11 and my rear says 11 41?! Also how many quarts and what type oil does a 10 bolt gm rear with a posi set up hold?

Depends what posi and fill it till the pilot comes out. Some units take limited slip additive.
Maybe the number variance is dana or aftermarket vs gm? Not enough information.

If you think it's a gov-loc factory locker (g80) no additive is recommended. Normal for gear oil to look bluish without additive

Take to cover off and look through catalogs and see which one looks like yours.

The extra "hardware" in the center of the spider gears is what makes it a gov-loc. If yours has that it's a factory (or factory style) g80 limited slip. Open rear looks the same but with nothing inside the spider gears. Either way, no additive. Straight gear oil.

I think 80w-90 is what GM recommends, you might want to look that up to be sure though as I've got some jeep contamination in my brain.

So now that I'm pretty certain it's a g80,I tried researching but found mixed opinions about 75w140,75w140 SYNTHETIC 80w 90 ... years not a good answer for my question

The stampings don't lie, but if the cover is off you can always count the teeth.

The picture in the Astro thread is likely the back side of a G80. You're pointing us to this one?

A G80 will clearly have the little governor mech like the picture below. With this side facing you, there is no mistaking.

As for fluid capacity, it's always about half a pint more than you bought.

If it is a gov-lock would rather have a 1 wheel wonder. Gov-locks small parts WILL fail and get in the big parts which WILL fail. Must be a chinese design.

no way. the g80 scattermaster works so good it kills itself. like a bee. kinda.

I was wondering when someone was gonna say this. The 1/2-ton 8.5" G80 unit has a pretty crummy service life. The carriers have a habit of fragmenting, and abuse is not required, some of them (like mine) fail under light street duty.

YMMV, but the odds aren't great with this one.
