I want to try out my 74 K5 at Rausch Creek offroad park in PA. But I live 3 hours away in NJ. It has 5:13 gears, 38" ground hawgs, dana 60 front,14 bolt rear(detroit locker), TH400/NP205,mild 350 engine. It tachs about 2800 @ 60mph. I don't own a trailer so I would have to drive it there. Do you think the 3 hour ride is too much abuse or what? Let me know what you guys do to get to the trails. Thanks!!

with a setup like that a trailer and tow rig would be great. but you wouldn't be asking if you had one. if it tachs at 2800 at 60 mph then go 55.

sign up here. www.rightcoast4x4.com its a small website that consists of people that wheel Rausch. there are some guys going this sunday for a shakedown run. you could pair up with them to get a feel for the park without fear of breaking anything and not being able to drive home.

Thats what I was looking for. I will check out that site. My K5 has a 15,000 lb Warn so I can help out if need be. Thanks alot for you help!!

I don't see a problem at all driving that with your set-up. If you're that worried about it then just drive a little slower like someone already mentioned. At 55 you'll be about 2550 rpm's Which is about perfect.

I drove a 350 at 3000 rpm- 67 mph for 2 years... never an issue. you'll be fine

I drove out to rousche creek, or at least I wish that was my destination. I was going about a town over. But needless to say I did drive that full 3hrs there doing 55, sm465 cruises at about 2300 rpms with 36's and 3.73's. You should be fine.

That gear splitter sounds better and better everytime I think about getting on the highway :D.

Either you don't have 3.73's or something else is going on with your rig as 55mph with 36" tires and 3.73's will get you at 1914rpm's.

Some quick math says your speedo is off by about 10mph given the correct tire size and gear ratio.

I keep my k10 at 2,800-3,000 rpm on the highway (I don't use OD with my current gearing) and haven't ever had any problems... so here's another vote for you'll be ok.

you will be fine, i daily drove my k5 with 4.10's and 33's and a sm465 it was at about 2800rpm at 65 and i never have had a problem. so go for it.

I want to sign up at rightcoast4x4 but I need the VIP CODE! How do I get it??

Hmmm I'm gonna go play with the calculator... I know for my speedo to be dead on I should have 4.10s so my speedo is off.

Ya know in addition I just got a new tac. I wonder if my old autometer was a little off.

It's doubtful that your autometer gauge is off. If you did not have your speedometer re-calibrated after your tire size change/gear ratio change then your speedo will be off.

Yeah but I never woulda thought it would be 10mph off.

My stock gears were 3.42's now running 3.73's. 31s to 36s. Where can I by the speedo adjuster?

My blazer was completely stock when i bought it and it had 3.73's and 31's

Speedos are not off by "MPH". They are off by a percentage. 3.42 --> 3.73 means your speedometer would now be correct for about 34" tires. So you are going 6-7% faster than you think (maybe worse because radials run short and bias tend to run as advertised).

You change out a gear in the tail of the T-case to correct the speedo, unless you have a newere VSS rig. But why not wait until you get those 4.56s?
