We probably all know about the "three on the tree" transmissions that Chevy used in the 70's.

But as I kid I vaguely remember riding in a Suburban that had a shifter on the dash. At least I thought it did,...and it seemed really weird to me...although I was a kid so I could have been confused

Just wondering if I made this up or what???

Maybe confusing with an old Chrysler with a pushbutton auto?

Rene

yup, my gramma had a Chrysler push button auto...

Corvairs had a small automatic shift lever on the dash, and I believe had some push button models as well.

Yeah the only chevy I know of is the Corvair that has a dash mounted auto shifter.
If there is such a beast (sub with a dash mounted shifter) I wanna see it. :D

but thankfully, swapping one into a burb would be a piece of cake, since the two vehicles are so simlar. :haha:

actually, my old neighbor had an 87 chevy pickup and he installed a chevelle "staple" shifter in the bottom of the dash. looked almost factory, so i know it can be done and done well.

hell i was gona say corvair too. thought it was pretty cool. what's a staple shifter though??

it's not exactly the focus of the picture, but this is what i was talking about. the gearshift is a stable shape instead of a "T" or just a knob. kinda cool, IMO

The Edsels had pushbutton shifters...and they prolly weighed about as much as a Burb...:D

Before I got my blazer I nearly bought a 58 edsel pacer 2dr. hardtop. Was planning on turning it into a lead sled :D. Those things have the coolest speedometers I've ever seen. The needle stays still while the speedo turns.

The speedo is in the center and I believe the buttons for the trans are on the left
