How does a 3 speed transfercase sound? I am looking into making at least one for myself. If this works good I might make more. What kind of gear ratios would you guys like to see. I was thinking something like 2.98 to 1 and 4.69 to 1 or 2.75 to 1 and 4 to 1. How does that sound. Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks

My own cases with the front adapter of a NV241. It will I hope have the strength of a 205 and maybe 1" longer than the 205. It will have two shift levels. That is about all I call tell you for right now.

I will have to build everything for it so it probably will not be before the end of summer but it could be sooner. I have to see how the work load at my work goes. I have to talk a little harder to the Boss to put some money into making the gears. Oh my boss is my Dad so I shouldn't have to talk to hard.

How about something lower than the 4 to 1 range? Many of us run stock gears and cant afford gear swaps. So, if we had a lower than 4 to 1 range, we can run taller tires with those punky highway gears.

Yeah, how about, if possible, a 1:1, 2.5:1, and 5:1. Are you planning to use planetaries or strictly all gears? I would be very interested in one. Be great if you could keep the price under an Atlas, say in the $1,000-2,000 dollar range. Keep us posted.

If I was designing it I would go with 3:1, 1:1, .7:1 O/D. Just a thought.

Having it incorporate a 2WD OD range would be nice since Blazers don't have enough wheel base to bolt any extra gearboxes under them and that would be great for TH350/400 owners.

How about a 1.3:1 range for 2WD and 4WD so that it also kills the problem of needing to swap axle gears? I know that it would put more stress on the driveshafts/'case and tranny than swapping in the right gears and using a 1:1 'case, but some people might consider that to help justify the purchase, since it could save them about $1000 worth of gear swap. Of course, for those people, a 1:1 range would be like overdrive anyway and having the higher axle gears would keep the driveshaft speed down, exaggerating less any problems due to big U-joint angles.

Just some ideas, personally, I don't think I'm in the market. Cool project, though.

I agree with Ken, a 1:1, 2.5:1 and 5:1 would be awesome! I will definitely be in line if it comes out like that! I was waiting for money to put in a Doubler, but if you bring this out I will definitely give it a shot! Keep us informed, please!

Personally, I don't see the need for 2 low ranges although an extra-low and an OD might be nice. However, this is a *HUGE* project and I can't imagine it being completed in 6 months.

Anyway, I would be happy if someone would just figure out how to get a lower low-range in a 205 without doing a doubler.

Coming soon: 4" lift, 40" tires, massive cutting, shorter wb and rear overhang.

I remember reading in 4-wheel, I believe, somebody makes a doubler that is 3-speed. It bolts between the tranny and t-case. It had two low gears 2:1 and 4:1 and an overdrive about .7:1 I think. Neat thing was it was Eaton air shifted. They installed it in a Ford Ranger x-cab so it was't too long. I think the issue was in the last couple of years. I know you're trying to do a single t-case but the possibilities with this are intruguing. Good to 1000 ft-lbs I think too.

Man that sounds perfect.

That was the "Brabnod Mountain Gear Auxillary Transmission"

Deep under 3.258:1
Second under 2.575:1
Direct 1:1
OD .79:1

Air shifted, so you'd need OBA, straight-cut gears and a torque capacity of about 1500 lb-ft!! And the whle thing fits in a package just 14" long. What's the down side, you say?

$3500.

Not including the installation and custom fabrication needed to get it to fit and work right. They did have a smaller, cheaper 2-speed intermediate 'case that was a .85 o/d and 2:1 low, but it was still around 1200 for it.

It was in the Sept. '98 Four-Wheel and Off-Road.

It would be bad-ass, but I don't know how you could get it to fit in a blazer. Maybe if you, moved the engine forward and stretched the wheelbase a few inches.....

Damnit!! Now you got me thinkin'!!

HTH,

Buddy

Ouch, thats more than I paid for my whole truck. I think I stick with the doubler.

I'd have to agree with Ken. I like the idea of 1:1, 2.5:1, 5:1. Somebody needs to come up with a lower gear for the 203 gearbox or the 205 case that would be enough for me.

Ken I am planning on all gears for now, but I have looked into planetarys also. They are a little more expensive.
