well its been a long time since i have posted up here and life has gotten the best of me in a good way . i finaly wanted to get my current truck going to enjoy but as i said life has gotten me good . bench seat in a std cab with stick shift and twin stick 205 makes it basically a 2 seat cab . so the wife said lets build something all 4 of us can ride in and enjoy .

the hunt was on and i kept looking on the web and finally stumbled on a m-1009 blazer 45 min from the house . so i called up my good buddy @sweetk30 to help me look it over to make sure its as solid as the guy said . we went up to the guys house/shop and looked her over real good and decided to bargain a bit on price . then sweetk30 said its to bad that someone pulled the grill guard off years ago when it was turned in to a police blazer . the guy said no problem i have a whole parts m1028a1 out back that it rusted bad but runs great and has everything on it .

well one thing lead to another and we struck up a deal on the pair and loaded them up and dropped them off at sweetk30's shop to start the build up . so we looked them over a bit more in the day light and yep the m1028a1 is SHOT from rust bad . but the drive-line seems great with a easy starting 6.2 /th400/205 combo . the axles seem real good still as she was real hard to turn in the wet snow/ice/water covered driveway .

so for now the plan is strip the drive-line from the m-1009 blazer and deliver it back to the guy as he wanted to much as a whole but we didn't want it anyway so he gets it back . then pressure wash the whole tub and frame good before the build out begins . the tube is ROCK solid were everyone normally rusts out bad and the frame is SUPER clean with tons of original paint still on it every place . the whole exhaust system even unbolted and come out clean sweetk30 said .

drive line plans :
my old built sbc from truck #1
my nv4500/205 twin sticked from truck #1
what ever axles are best condition from #1 or #2 or combo
my current suspension combo 4" tuff country hd fronts / 22-547 56" rear and flip kit
1" -1.5" body lift for easy work and tire clearance
37" radial mud tires i have on 8 lug rims already
my old school beefy front winch bumper with ramsey electric winch and maybe the military brush guard mixed in possible
clean up the inside a little bit but keep it easy to clean and look family quality decent

pair of winches to pick from . not sure yet what one to use . thinking the 12k winch for the size capacity and fits in the same mount i have already .
ramsey RE-8,000 http://www.ramsey.com/shop/worm-gear-products/re8000r/
ramsey RE-12,000 http://www.ramsey.com/shop/worm-gear-products/re12000r/

plans down the road possible efi swap over the carb now
electric fans combo and ditch the mech fan setup
possible paint if it turns out to be to ruff for whats on it

so sweetk30 got some work done last night and this morning . he was able to remove the whole driveline fairly easy he said as the last person who installed the used stuff half way tightened stuff and or left it loose . The shell was then rolled outside and purple power soaked down and hot water pressure washed since its in the low 50's around here today . she come out real good and should be good to go with a little more mechanical clean up and maybe even a coat of paint . next on the list is clean out the old truck and start stripping stuff from it to get it all ready to swap on to the blazer combo .

sweetk30 said its just so hard to work on rust free stuff unlike what we get to play with all the time up here in the rust belt . after he did the wash job and drip dry he busted butt on the suspension and axles to be ready to drop out and make room for the lift and 1tons from the old k30 red door truck .

wow can you get a lot of drop and soft ride if you pull the leaf spring bolts loose and remove the shocks and brake hose . ha ha

he said he has all the leafs and axles ready to pop out and brake hoses off and fluid drained . he said next will be old k30's turn for the gut and removal of the parts . i hope to get down there in the next few days and give the guy a hand so i can say i did help build my new family ride . he sure is busting on this good and looks like the blazer is as clean as we figured .

since we have a super clean frame and no problems yet i went ahead and ordered a offroad design shock brace kit for the back end . http://offroaddesign.com/catalog/RearShockBrace.htm this should go good with there steering box brace i have to swap over and all ther other stuff like the hd shackles and greaseable leaf spring bushing kit stuff on the whole truck and there shackle flip rear that we will have to make work on the k5 off the k30 .

well @manchildau65 stopped down tonight and we took the old engine/trans/t-case back to the guy we got the blazer from and were done with the deal and good to go .

he looked over the work and condition of the blazer and is super happy with the deal he got and what i have done already in a short time . i told him the next day or so he old k30 will get stripped and be ready to give up its driveline and axles for the blazer build.

he did bring me a load of goody's to help get his ride closer to done . 37x12.50x17 F/S mt/2 brand new tires and m/t rims in black . these things are aggressive looking and beefy should be good for what he has planned for the blazer .

got a good jump on the old k30 original truck today for the parts we will be saving / swapping over to the blazer .

started around 11am today and got her in just before the rain started to dump . she did put up a heck of a fight being cranky to start but i got her just before the battery went dead . then i got this far by 5:30pm just working at it slow and steady saving all the stuff i can at this point . then dinner break and about ready to drop the trans / t-case and engine out .

side note i think i found out why she was always cranky to start . as i was using my electric pump to drain the fuel tank dry all of a sudden i heard the tank go BOING ! i went over and popped the fuel cap and she went SUUUUUCK and BOING again and the electric pump worked better . she had a non vented cap and the vent line must be plugged or capped off .

well @sweetk30 sent me some more pics tonight to show he has the old k30 about done . he has about all of it off / saved and ready to roll out . 2 motor mount bolts and headers off and the engine is out . the trans and t-case are on the bench now . he is going to pop the 205 apart and swap in the short input gear to eliminate the advanced adapters spacer so the blazer can have as long as possible rear shaft . he said its sure weird he is stripping the truck he helped build with me at-least 10+ years ago . but the new rig will get used a lot more cause its for the family and i have seen first hand now what happens when it just sits and rusts solid and stuff just wont move .

few pics of the progress he sent me to go with the ones he posted up today .

he asked me if we can use this kind of body lift ? i told him maybe on the parts left over truck we toss together for the woods beater .

Love the look of these tires I wish they came in 35x10.5r16. You guys are off to a good start!

now the BUILD out can start !

she is back in the main shop bay and already found a common problem . but we can fix that easy with parts from the old k30 frame we had to do the same to so i just unbolted the hanger to swap over after dinner . wait till i post the pic of the EGGED out hanger :doah:. people should check these like a prostate exam :rotfl::rotfl:

found this shackle hanger ground out from the bad bushing for a long time . had the one from the k30 we parted and swapped the hanger over and good to go . 7/16" grd-8 with metal crimp nuts .

then the 4" tuff country HD and 1" ZERO rate with axle 1.5" forward went under on some 35" tires and we gained 12" of fender height just doing this much . then the last 2 pics is with the 1.5" aluminum body lift pucks added in the mix . . . . then the poser shot with the cali-leeeen :cool1: with 10 bolt and 31" tires on the rear still . waiting on the new perches and shock tabs for the 14ff to be a 1/2-3/4 ton spring width spacing and if need be dial in the pinion angle before :weld: them on the axle for good .

sweetk30 showed me some stuff today that showed up to make the driveline more firm and help make the rear axle go in under the blazer frame . this thing is moving along good so far & i cant wait for the end result .

here ya go new energy suspension motor mount inserts compared to stock rubber .

got 2wd steering box & jeep shaft in tonight . steering hooked back up .
found i need to pull the tail gate springs to clear the bumper and they dont touch anymore on the frame mounts with the 1.5" body lift .
got the body bolts out in the next to last position after i found them frozen in place then looked more after the air hammer did nothing . . . the bolts were half welded 180* to the floor pan . cut them and popped out .
did some other little clean up stuff .

0208191600b.jpg

few pics today from sweetk30 . he said he was doing a shop clean up day from all the parting and swapping and stuff piled up every were . figured i might want to leave it this way cause its a good old cali lean job going on .

she got 2 of the new 37x12.50x17 F/S mt/2 tires on the front . said he just needs to remove the old k30 perches and shock tab's from the 14ff rear and figure out if he can modify or just make a trade deal with someone on the k30 4" ORD flip kit for a std k5-3/4 ton flip kit . then my new 56" springs and flip can go in and then mock up the drive-line and make sure stuff is were it needs to be so he can measure for the shaft .
