About what year were these introduced? Are these more durable (overall considering there a later model design) than the 29 spline shaft 700's?

There are no 29 or 30 spline 700R4's.

Stock GM is 27 spline, there are some aftermarket output shafts. 23 and 32 spline I believe.

There definitely was never a 29 spline output on a 700R4. The 23 spline is a little bigger than the 27 and the 32 spline is significantly bigger, though failures from any of those are fairly rare.

I meant the input shaft, if this is the same thing. An yes, I should have put 27 not 29.

After having my current 700 rebuilt multiple times over the years, I'm looking to do a quick fix to get by. Don't need something as pretty as the bowtie trannies. Just looking to do a quick swap from a parts truck if possible.

My tranny rebuilders book says :
1983:--Input shaft & drum assembly revised (doesn't state spline counts)
1984:--New torque converter introduced..new rear internal gear..
1985 Revised valve body that eliminates the torque converter clutch shift valve..--new pump assembly for trannys with electronically controlled TCC..--New rear carrier with oil deflector..
1986 : Wider one way clutch
1987:--New 10 vane oil pump...new design reverse clutch...new input shaft (doest state so,but I assume this is when the made the one with more splines?)..Deeper oil pan..wider input sprag...

1987 is when the new input shaft was introduced, and yes, they are much better.
