Hey there...some know..some don't. I got a 85' K-10/4spd./6in. lift/35's/front detroit lockers. Here the deal is...It currently has the stock, worn 305. It's giving me trouble here and there. Here are my options. I can rebuild the motor, throw on a edelbrock intake, and a nice 4bbl for around $700(I currently got the 2bbl stocker).Or I got offered a freshly rebuilt 350, summit intake, holley 4bbl...and some other goodies for like $600 and my crappy 305. These quotes are from my friend who is a mechanic. What would ya'll do. I'm thinking the 350. My 305 is junk..along with my carb and intake. Hell, if I put a 350 in myself i'd prolly give that 305 away. So...im saying it's a go. I also have a set of NEW dynomax blackjack headers i'd throw on..welded to my 40 series flowmasters out to turndowns(no cat.), along with a NEW Griffin Radiator. So...get back with me on your opinions..what ya'll would do. Oh yeah, my truck is a daily driver, and weekend wheeler. I pull nothing...except a 5x8 trailer every now and then....and I don't get into the throttle too bad. So...give me some ideas!

You will thoroughly enjoy having a 350 over the 305. I think there is more potential with a 350 as well. It will use more gas than the 305/2bbl combo. As far as it being a DD, you might wanna go with a quadrajet carb, if you are worried about MPG. Sounds like fun though, wish i could rip out my 350, bore it to 383, and light up my tires in 4 wheel low!

true, true. well, I know one thing....where can you get a fresh 350..with a NEW carb and intake for about $600? So...I think it's a go. The more I think about it...the more I want a 350. So, yeah....once I get done spraying my floor with line-x, and undecoating my truck...off to his shop it goes. But, before it goes to his shop...it's going through hell!

If its already complete and running well , grab the 350 . Why spend more for less .

I run my 305 only because it works ( well ) and its in there , so I will kill it before my 355 goes in :d

yeah, i wish i could bore all of my 350s too, unfortunately every 350 that ever rolled out of GM's casting plant(s) can only be bored to 4.060", a full 1/8" short of 383ci. 4.060" bores = 360 ci. you need to stroke it to make a 383. :surepal:

yeah, it's a go. I threw a rod through my oil pan today, and got back home(5miles) on pretty much V-7. I just put a crap load of duct tape over the hole in my oil pan, and took it easy. I ain't stressin it anymore, my 305 will be out in a week, and that 350 will be completely ready in 2 weeks. My dad is very pissed at me for blowing my motor, but...im a kid, and he can get over it.

:haha: wow thats pretty funny Duct tape RULES!:haha: my truck had a 305 in it but when i got it it had a 350. I realy like the power. but the fuel milage is a little to be desired 9.8 w/foot in it or 11.3 w/o foot in it lol.

let me guess... he's paying the bill.

^^^^^^
lemme guess....NOT. Im paying the bill. Like I said...a 350 is waiting for me as we speak. I just got to get on the job...and pull out my 305. I'm goin to Florida to vistit my bro, and sis for x-mas...so can't get started until a week into January. But...it's cold, wet, and gloomy down here right now..so screw it. I'll be ready by Feb. And yeah, I love duct tape too. I just took a rag...cleaned off all the oil on my oil pan so the tape would stick, and made a patch for it! It worked, just slapped duct tape on it...and add oil! worked great, hell...I even drive it around the yard!

Not necessarily. Remember that the jets on a 2 barrel are larger than the primary jets on a 4 barrel. As long as you keep your foot out of it, you may actually see improvement in mpg.

I swapped a 305 2 barrel for a 350 4 barrel in my old el camino and gained 4 mpg.

Ya, I guess it does depend on how far your foot goes down. I did the 307/2BBL swap to a 350 QJet in my 73 nova a while ago and noticed I was at the gas station a lot more than before.

Oh, BTW, DUCK TAPE RULES!!!! I read an article on CK5 about what to pack in your rig for the trail and he mentions to keep a roll in arms reach of your seat because of the 1001 uses. Nice fix man!
