305 won't idle

i got a 305 from a 79 caprice in my 54 chevy truck. the thing will idle fine until i put it in gear. i have my idle ste around 1100 rpm.
the motor:
305, .030 over
10:1 flat tops
port and polished 327 heads
stock bottom end
comp 280 hydraulic cam and double springs
600 edelbrock carb
edelbrock performer rpm intake
points ignition
th350 trans, stock w/ no stall yet

runs fine at idle, runs fine WFO, just won't idle in drive or reverse. what's the chances of it being the stall?
