33's on stock 8" wide rims...how far do they stick out?

Another incredibly technical question here. I'm a few weeks from buying tires so I'm trying to figure out which size to get.

I'll be buying either 285/75R16s or 305/70R16s. Works out to a 33x11.25ishR16 or a 33x12ishR16. Not a lot of difference but...

...I hate having tires stick out from under the fenders. Just ends up throwing anything on the tires up on the body. Just not for me.
Right now I have 265/75R16s - about 32x10.5ishR16. The fronts are just inside of the fenders with my 16x8's that have 4" of backspacing. Basically they're 16's that otherwise replicate the OEM 15x8 specs.

So who on here is running 33's on factory 15x8's or 15x8's with the same dimensions as stock? I've seen it done enough to know the 33's should fit under the truck...just never paid enough attention to how far the tires stuck out from under the fenders or if they cleared the drag link on right hand turns?

Minor I know but I'm sorta going between the two sizes. Would love to have the extra width of the 305's but not sure if that will end up with the tires sticking out and bugging the **** out of me. Could easily go safe with the 285's but would hate to end up regretting not going with the wider tires...like I did when I played it safe and bought the 265's instead of the taller tires.:doah:

 Back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth...

Hmmm......the current tires are 10.5" wide. You are looking at "12ish" wide tires. Simple math states that the the widers tires would stick out less than 1" more on either side. Now go take a tape measure or ruler and see what that looks like on the truck.:thumb:

Yeah yeah...I need to do this in more detail. Basically looking for experiences and opinions while I sit here at work. Been staring at spreadsheets and hand written records all day. Meanwhile I have all these thoughts in the back of my head about tires and wheels and paint and...

Stupid question, but are the rally wheels 15x8? If they were, I had them on my truck with 33x12.50's and they only stuck out a hair in the front, and not enough to get the truck dirty.

Yep, the factory ralleys are 15x8. Remember that the rear track width is less than the front, so you'd only notice up front.

Anyway, I ran 33x12.50x15's on those wheels on my M1009, and they looked like this and this. That's with a spacer in the back, too, I might add ... don't remember if they were 1" or 1.5". See for yourself, but they basically just peeked out a bit up front, and without the spacer, would hardly fill the fenders in back.

Hrmmmmm...might just go for the 305's. They usually run a touch narrower than true 33x12.5's.

You guys have any drag link rubbage?

Not on DD duty, which is all that truck ever saw for me. Never got it really crossed up.

I shined up mine with my 33x12.50 BFG ATs, but thats at full stuff, hard passenger, and only 15 pounds in the tires...

When I had the 36x12.5-16.5's on Big Ugly on the stockish wheels I had rubbing issues. Actually destroyed a drag link boot because of it.

The 33 is shorter and I know there's not a lot of room. Need to go measure some stuff.

I've got a bunch of space between the drag link and the tire, I should be fine. I'd need to have the tread patch at least 2" wider to even rub the drag link. That'd make the tire at least a 13.5" or a square shouldered 12.5".

I actually got a plumb out and did a little eyeballing after the body lines and fender curve were playing tricks on me.

Think I'm going with the wider 305/70R16's. Should fit like in dremu's pics.

Woohoo!

Anybody have any fender rubbage? I doubt I'd need any in the back and probably not up front but I'm tempted to trim a bit. Actually liked "defanging" Big Ugly.

Can't comment on the fender rubbin but I ran 35x12.50s on the stock rallys and they just stuck out a tiny bit in front.

I never had any problem with rubbing of any sort but my fenders were trimmed although I did run stock inner fenders

Don't DD it anymore.

37's are too big for me. To expensive, heavy, and uncommon. Besides, 10 bolts would die of fright.

neither 33s or 35s stuck out past the fenders on mine. in fact they were well under the body lines front and rear. they were on the stock 15x8 wheels and 2.5" lift. not exactly the right angle but these are the 35s.

35 x 12.5's on stock ralleys. They don't sling any crap, and they don't stick out from the body.
