My 99 grand am has had a belt squeal issue for a long time now, in the last few moths I have replaced

belt
tensioner
P/S pump (twice)
P/S pulley (old one had a few chips)
Idler pulley

Even after replacing all this stuff it still sqeals, however its usually only when its rainy/wet or pretty humid out. the noise really seems to be coming from the P/S pump. I dont know what to do, I am so frusterated with this POS, Im almost to the point of lighting the thing on fire.

Last time I got the $40 belt from carquest, a gates belt I think. Should I try replacing the belt again? I cant afford to keep throwing money at this thing, but I need this noise to stop.

Did you have to remove the pulley on the PS pump? If so you might not have it seated correctly. What about the Ac compressor? Smog pump?

We have had alot of trouble with belts and when we had a carquest across the street there belts seemed to do it alot. I would concider a GM belt or get a second carquest one.

the belt that was on the car when I got it was a gates belt also, maybe I will have to try a different brand.

The gates belts are pretty well known, i wouldn't go straight to that. But if you do change brands, and it fixes the problem, return the old one.

I like the goodyear gatorback belts in addition to the gates ones.

Are all you pulley's visually aligned?

I had this on my S-10 4.3 serp belt.

Replaced it with a Goodyear belt, problem solved. Go find a Goodyear belt.

One more for the Gatorback belt! If it still squeals, then something is just plain locked up, lol.

After work last night I pulled the belt and was inspecting the thing closely when I noticed little peices of gravel stuck all over in the grooves. scraped most of it out and its now alot better.

now I need to get another new belt, and Ill keep this one as a spare. Where do I find the goodyear gatorback belts? I would rather not drive all over hell searching for one.
