Not my 60.

I searched but as pointed out in the past my search skills suck.

How hard is it to put 35 spline axles in a rear 60? I have seen some conflicting info.

I'm pretty sure that most housings will need the spindles bored out to fit the larger shaft. Other than that it's a direct swap.

There's a tool (~$350, I think) that looks like a cylinder that screws onto the spindle, inside it there's a boring bit you run with a large drill. I'll try to find a pic.

Thanks John. It looks like they rent it!!! I will pass the info on.:D

There never was a factory 35 spline rear D60. Only 30 spline, or less. Plenty of aftermarket companies make a 35 spline D60 rear axle but never a factory one.

As John said, a boring tool. There was an article in Petersens 4WOR years ago and Off Road Unlimited did the same job. They showed the tool and step by step pics of the task. The biggest problem with boring a stock spindle is when you remove the interior material, the spindle walls get thinner and weaker. I wouldn't even suggest boring a stock spindle. I would get aftermarket and have someone reweld the new spindles on to the old tubes.

Supposedly there is a super rare FF D60 with factory 35 spline shafts, IIRC its from a GM van during a couple years and only with a specific weight rating.

Also, something that hasn't been mentioned is that not all FF 60 spindles can be bored. There are two styles, one can be bored for 35 spline shafts and one can't.
