I would go with the 1102 with your relatively high geared combination. The 1103 will be down in torque below 2,500 compared to the 1102 and will feel a bit doggy. If you went with some lower gears and/or a looser converter you'd be fine.

What intake? I generally prefer the Performer RPM.

Don't forget your oil additives. Especially important when breaking in a cam. Crane and Comp cams make some good stuff.

well right now i have 4.56's on 39's with a detroit locker, if i upgrade to one tons it will be 4.88's and i have the edelbrock proformer intake for the vortecs. and wouldnt the break in lube for the cam that comes with it good enough or get something else. So you still think i should get the 1102 with the stuff i have? thanks

Ok thanks guys and do you know where i can get some decent cheap stock tie rods i need them bad and some body bushings for cheap at?

i am limited to money right now thats why im looking at the cheap summit cams, later on i might upgrade the cam after i see how this one does, so you think i should get the 1102 cam? The 350 isnt computer controlled and carbed btw

Words of wisdom right here....

"If you can't afford to do it once, don't do it at all."

Save up the extra $50 and get a different brand.

Do your heads have aftermarket springs? If not I forgot the exact number, (440?) maybe is too larger and it will crush the seals.

whats so bad about the summit cam, i thought it was just another cam with a different name on it, and when ur in high school with no job and all its kinda hard to save money and all to get my truck going. the max lift the heads can handle with stock springs are .470 lift i heard, im looking for a decently cheap cam that will give me the torque, some what of a lumpy sound a little, and has lifters with it and would work with my stock vortec heads with stock springs on a 2 piece rear 350 engine thats carbed

There's nothing wrong with the Summit cams, I've run a lot of them with zero failures. The lifters worry me a little as I think they come from China, but what doesn't anymore? Make sure you break the cam in properly, use the additive I mentioned earlier and all should be well.

.460-.470" is max lift with stock Vortec heads, some will take more but you have to check retainer to guide clearance closely and replace the valve springs with something a little more substantial.

I still think the 1102 is the best all around cam for your application. You can go to the 1103 if you want a slightly rough idle but you'll trade off low speed torque.

Look at the rpm ranges on those cams... they are only 2000 rpm long. Also theres alot of things that go into making a good cam besides lift and duration. Different ramp rates, lobe center angle, intake centerline, etc all play a part in making power.

well is there any other cam you guys perfer i might be able to try to dish some cash out for, like i said before with lifters, torque, has to work with my stock heads and wouldnt mind a lump ha. and thanks for all the help btw guys

I would go with a high lift/ short duration style camshaft.

This will increase the torque and hp curve, if you get it on a wider (larger numberically) angle, then it will have a broader RPM range. and vice versa.

I was told by someone that high lift, short duration is good for torque.

How is this truck going to be used? That will also affect the best camshaft.

Mud your going to want a mid-range camshaft.
Rocks- really low RPM torque,
race/mud/puller- want a more radical cam, keep it above 4k and keep going.

it will be my DD and i use it for mudding, towing, little racing buddies, smoking the tires, but love torque. Its lifted 9 inches, on 39's 4.56 gears, detroit locker, stock converter, really built th-350 now (3rd one). any link to a particular cam because my b-day is coming up tueday and im getting cash and all i can put to this.

I would definetly suggest a mild cam, something that starts at like 1300-1500. Your little undergeared, especially with the slushbox.

I would say that it would work great for your motor, you would definetly have to check your springs though.

The second cam might work better though, less lift so your springs *should* work great. And I'm not sure that your stock bottom end could takt 5500rpms. the 4500 will be fine though.

That cam is very ideal for what you're doing, it has more agressive ramps with more effective duration compared to the Summit cam and will be worth a bit of power at all engine speeds. If you can swing it that'd be the cam I'd use. A set of headers will go nicely with that cam as well.

None of the cams in the size you need are really going to have much of a lope, and to be honest you'd get sick of it in a hurry even if it did.
