My brother calls me up telling me about this 350 I can get from him
info as I heard it...
New remanufactured 350 from GM
said the prev. owner paid 2800 for it
never started or installed yet
bored or pumped .30 over...I think he said it pumps .30 over IDK
my brother bought it from him for 1800
put new eldelbrock intake on it he said he paid 300 for
he has the M/T valve covers on it he said he paid 110 for
Everything is supposedly new
last digits of vin is 010
what do you guys value this at cash wise?
May start up another project :D

He probably said punched over its another term for boring the cylinders .030 thousandths over the stock diameter of 4.00 so its now a 355. As for the motors value if you dont know how to build your own then 1800 isnt bad but you can find cheaper crate motors but those goodwrench 350s are pretty good reliable crate motors. Even though its never been started id worry about how its been stored it could have rust on cylinder walls dried out seals and gaskets. But its your brother if you cant trust your brother then who can you.

For $1200 I bought a complete 5.3 w/ a 4l60e,wireing, ecm that walks circles around those crate motors.
\I'd also say pass.

I paid 600, I want to just get an older nova, chevelle, or stingray and have a cool little street car. For 600 I basically bought the valve covers and intake and nearly got the motor for free so I am happy. He also said it is a 4 bolt main, and he said a 4 bolt main 350 is better than just a 2 bolt main...for $600 how good is the deal?

At those power levels there is no need for a four bolt, and you'll never notice any difference between a two bolt and a four bolt while you are sitting behind the steering wheel.

I'm confused? Why is the engine a new gm crate and bored .030 over?

IDK...just what my brother told me. Remanufactured crate motor and the guy had it bored .030 over. Is that odd?

Sounds very odd to me. Who gets an engine that is ready to go and then takes it to a machine shop to have it bored .030 over? Was it only a bare block when this guy got it? I thought most crate engines had the rotating assembly installed. Cam, heads, pistons, crank, would be about right for a 2600$ gm crate engine. What would be the point of taking it all apart again?

I just read your build thread and noticed you just installed a 350. Why do you need 2?

Also you can take your manifolds to a machine shop and get a fresh surface on them to eliminate leaks. Should be around 20$ a side.

350's come in all varieties, I'd be concerned about compression ratio, cam selection, etc. A great motor for a lightweight car might be a frustrating choice for a heavy 4x4. If the motor is not set up for your intended application the extra investment in parts and labor may not be worth it.

My brother said he believed the guy he bought it from said bored .030 over but that he wasn't sure. He said the oil pan is off and he can see eveything in there is new and the tag is still on the motor. I am planning to start another project other than the blazer. I want to build a nova,Chevelle, Camaro, or el camino. I really like the 60s and 70s hot rod and with this motor I think I have a good start to one

Haha I have an engine sitting in my garage for a future project. It's a 307 removed from a pristine Camaro. Two 2bbl carbs for it and all sorts of stuff. Sitting is exactly what it does. It is doing a great job of holding down the floor. I heard it run and I paid 150$, but my point is the engine is a waste of space because I have no car to put it in. I would find yourself a car first. Maybe you'll find one with a decent engine.

I'm with Rich. I can't say for sure, but I think GM crate motors come with the nominal bore. In other words, not overbored.

Okay. I believe that the valve covers aren't "glued" on yet so I can see inside of the engine when I get it and maybe see what all has been done to it. I am specifically looking for an older car without a motor so I can put the motor in. It was a frustrating but fun experience with the blazer, and it gives me pride to say I put the motor in...I have a month to find a project that I like so the search begins:waytogo:

Your not going to see much inside the valve covers

Don't worry adam! The lift shall come soon! As soon as the dash is installed and the leak is taken care of, then it is lift time:waytogo:
