Will a set of 86 350 motor mounts work on an older 350? I put the mounts on a 350 that is a 70's model and it will not line up with the holes on the frame. And we have been at it for a couple hours but it will not line up...

Note: I do not know what type of car this came out of...All I had to go off of is the engine #'s

the triangular bolt pattern is the same for all small blocks, that much i know. however depending on what vehicle it came out of i would say the motor mounts themselves would be different. So you would want to get motor mounts for the year truck the engine is going in...

Dont know if that answered your question or not.

I thought all the small block rubber mounts were interchangeable?

However, I am sure the part that bolts to the block (I've heard it called a "hat") is different depending on car, truck, etc. I know for a fact a BBC truck or car hats are different.

if i am reading the question right, he has the 86 motor mounts from his blazer, and i assume he is going to put an older small block in it and is asking if the motor mounts he has will work. The answer to that is yes, if you have all the parts to the motor mounts they will bolt right up, sbc and bbc for that matter have the same 3 bolt pattern for mounts.

Motor mounts are interchangeable on the engines, the bolt pattern is the same as mentioned. However I have seen different motor mount frame brackets and hats over different years, but as long as you are using the 86 frame brackets and motor mount hats on the 86 frame it should all line up if everything is still straight.

I have a truck that the frame is tweaked a little and you cant tell by looking at it but if you pull the motor the bolt holes wont line up when you put it back. One trick that seems to work for me is to loosen the clam shell mounting bolts so that it can slide around on the frame bracket. Get one side lined up and stick the bolt through and use pry bars to work the other side around and get it lined up.

The shells that bolt to the engine are different on cars and 2wd VS 4x4 trucks..the thru bolt holes are about 1" further away from the block on 4x4 ones than the car & 2wd versions...sometimes the car and 2wd ones will worb, but will put the engine down further and tilt towards the front some, and cause the harmonic balancer or oil pan to contact the crossmember..

There are a few different bolt holes in the crossmember to bolt up the mounts to it,I personally have never had to move those pads around unless I was putting in a V8 where a straight six was,but my Chiton's books claim the big blocks use a different set of holes than the small blocks did too..maybe because I used my original small block shells on the BBC engine I didn't need to move them?..

Yes the problem was that I had 86 motor mounts and putting an older SBC. We had one of the sides in and it WOULD NOT line up. Used pry bars on it for a couple hours and tried putting the bolt in the other side first. Went to the autoparts store to see if the mount was any different for the 70's blazers and they were the same. Finally went back frustrated but I had the idea to lower the motor about an inch or two higher than the frame and drop a couple screwdrivers in each side to line up a hole from each side. Lowered the motor and it worked like a charm. We were atleast an inch off on the side without a bolt in...Owell after 8 hours we finally got it:doah: time to finish this!
