350 or 305

i have an engine that came out of a 86 k5 the sticker under the hood says 305 but i tore eng down it has a 4bolt main they didnt build 305s with 4 bolt mains or did they ?

check out my web page for the casting number links. I believe the 305 has either 305 or "5L" (5 liter) cast into the back of the block, behind the flexplate.

From what I've heard, 305's DON'T come with a 4-bolt main. That's only one of the reasons my next motor wil be a 350........

AFAIK the 305 has a smaller bore than the 350...if you have it tore down just measure the bore. If its 4.000 or a little over its a 350...under 4.000" (like 3.750") then it should be a 305.
The stroke is the same.

On the left rear of the block there will be a stamp. 5 or 5.7 5.7 is a 350.
