so I have headers and true duals that I plan on putting on my 87 stepside that has 350 tbi, but there are lines running into the exhaust manifolds that looks to be from the air pump. so can I just by pass the air pump for my headers? should I cut the belt off the air pump and pull out the lines and the splitter? and do I have to mess with the computer to by pass it?

On my 87 tbi, the pump was tight, and ran it like that for some time. Then a manifold cracked and I put some manifolds on that didn't have the air tubes, air pump is gone now too. I don't have any problems. I don't have emissions checks either.

There's no error code or anything that will effect driving if you physically remove the air pump. It will still pump air when commanded so just unplug it.

But you would be better off with a chip that did not use air pump for a few reasons. Air pump is active at cold start, idle and idle is Open Loop, WOT is also Open Loop and air pump active. Even a stock chip that came without Air Pump is a better choice.

yea i think im gunna cut the belt for air pump, cut the belt for ac pump, get rid of the air pump tubes, install my headers and duals and hopefully notice a little differance
