Is it possible to run a 350 tbi on a 454 until I find a 454 TBI? Also anyone know if you can get the 454 tbi adapter plate from GM still?

with a few mods. ask brian at www.tbichips.com good info and service. and then you wouldnt need a 454 tbi.

also you dont need the stk gm adaptor. if you dont want. get a aftermarket. stock has coolent running threw it for faster warmup and emmisions stuff.

Where can I get an aftermarket adapter? I haven't been able to find one, maybe I am just searching for the wrong thing. What type of mods are needed to the throttle body?

Nevermind, found a transdapt adapter at Summit. But still interested in what mods are needed to the TB itself.

I agree, the 350 TBI does not have enough air flow or fuel flow for a 454. Here is what I know about the 350 and 454 TBI.

350 TBI 535 CFM vs. 454 TBI 670 CFM.

350 TBI has 60 lb injectors vs 454 TBI has 90 lb injectors.

Will the 350 TBI work on a 454 ... well yes ... the 350 TBI will work just as good as a 3 legged dog trying to chase a rabbit.

Try calling the local boneyards, I found one off a truck and one off a car. both were 100 bucks each.

Thanks for the info. I found a 454 TBI from a member here so no problems. I was really just curious if the 350 TBI would work as a temporary get it running fix. I was thinking it would be harder to find a 454 TBI.

The heated adapter is to prevent the throttle plates from icing up. 454s suck a lot of air and dont have the exhaust crossover in the intake manifold like SBC the keep the throttle plates warm. SO they run hot coolant thru the adapter to warm the TB base.
Icing is not really an issue in warm climate. But it can happen in cold humid freezing weather. Having your throttle ice up and stick open on a crowded freeway might be a little scary.

They sure do have the exhaust crossover at least on ALL Mark IV BBC's.

Opps sorry. I ment that the adapter did not have or connect to the exhaust crossover to heat it.

Yes I know. I stated that it was Coolant heated in my first post. Maybe I should have said water so everyone would know what I meant. But I do not run straight water in my engines.
"SO they run hot coolant thru the adapter to warm the TB base."

I thought that was fairly clear.

I simply brought up the subject because icing is an issue in colder climates epically with a BBC. Icing can make your throttle stick open. It has happened to me on engines with an unheated throttle base in cold weather.
The heated adapter is heated to prevent icing not for emission issues. The Therm ac heat riser that pulls hot air off the exhaust manifold is emission related and helps the engine warm faster. But after it closes and starts pulling outside air there is nothing to keep the TB heated without the Coolant (or water if you prefer) heated adapter.
