i am contemplating changing over my tbi 350 to a 6.2 snail diesel to do the whole veggie oil deal. right now im mated to a sm465 and i was wondering how much of a pain thats going to be and if the 6.2's are computer injected or mechanical and if so what do i gotta do to make it work? thx

AFAIK chevy was smart and used the same bellhousing pattern for all their engines. The 6.2l is mechanical, and should bolt right up. You'll need a diesel tank and new fuel lines as well as a glow plug control of some kind.

The 6.2L is a mechanical injected motor that uses one hot ign source to turn the injector pump fuel solenoid on/off. It drops in without any hard mods... Bellhousing pattern is the same. 90% of the wiring is the same as a carb'd rig. You can flush your current tank and just change the fuel pickup rather than replacing the tank (You won't need/want the TBI fuel pump in there anymore). Biggest challenge will be removing the TBI wiring and computer from your current harness since it won't be needed anymore.

It would be best if you get a donor vehicle with everything you need in one place rather than trying to hunt for one thing at a time though. The glow plug circuit can be setup 100% manual with a relay. Just run a set of 60G self limiting glow plugs before you do.

I have some pics from my swap in a '79 K10 here:
