boy its funny. you post a question at night, next morning there is over 20 replies, but only 3 that are actually answering the question
fun to read tho.
anyway, the power numbers that i stated were just a ballpark. my main objective is to have an engine that works best at the rpms i run at. so basically, i want it as strong an torquey as possible between 2-3000rpm.torque peak as close to 2500 as possible, while still producing a decent numbers. if it falls on its face at 4k, thats fine.its also gotta be pretty mild causs its gonna stay factory TBI, and i dont want to hassle with all the custom tuning crap to get it to run right.as long as it makes more "truck" power than my stock motor, i'd be happy.
i figured it would be easier to get more low end torque with a 383, but i didnt want to sacrifice reliability. i suppose if i use the 5.7 rods then there isnt a problem. the only thing i was thinking tho is that the increase in piston speed from the longer stroke would possibly decrease overall life.
while im at it here's another question, is it worth it? how much more would it cost to do a 383tbi vs. a 350, and would the power #'s justify that? i think for me it should be at least an extra 30 ft.lb of torque and a flatter powerband to justify the cost.
BTW , does anyone know what the torque # is and rpm it peaks at on a stock 89 350tbi? all i can find is the hp numbers.
