350 vs 383 vs 400 vs ls 6.2

So with a smaller cam then chances are that I'd be able to stick with tbi?
Not decided yet still on the fence line haven't started leaning yet, lots of little bits and fragments still bouncing around my brain housing group. I am guessing that tbi will give better mileage compared to carb or is that a myth?

A built 383 compared to a 400 with the same 450 hp which would be less expensive (for the motor build)? I am thinking of getting a stage 2 or 3 from monster transmission 700R4, I don't know if that would make a difference on the motor, but then gain I would like to get a np 6500 too! Decisions, decisions

You can stick to TBI with any cam you want but the smaller the cam the more likely you wont need a tune but if you're changing heads you'll need a chip anyway.

And a properly tuned qjet will get NEARLY the same mileage as TBI.

If you put the same heads and cam on a 400 and a 383 you're going to get a little bit less out of the 383 but the additional cubes of the 400 with tame the cam down a little.

Is there a difference in headers for a 4wd truck and a 2wd truck?? I hav a 5.7L in 89 K5 if that helps. Thanks

Wow you realize this is someone elses thread right? Ya dont just ask you're own completely irrelevant questions in someones thread like that...

Exactly what I'm gonna build. Except for the 4 bolt, cast crank....

I have a 260 series cam in one 454. Pulls hard, gobs of low end torque.
I'd like to try a 268 series cam in my other 454.

Quadrajet carb does not have to be adjusted every year. With a mild cam, and a basic carb rebuild, your 454 will have good manners for an everyday daily driver, all weather driveablility (like summer Arizona to winter North Dakota temp extremes) and reliability, just like from the factory. The carb will not be a problem. Quadrajets are fantastic carbs.

Fourwheeler mag May 2001 had a comparison of 3 carbs. Quadrajet was very highly rated. See if you can find the article somewhere.
