I have an 86 blazer. w/ 4:56 gears and 36" swampers. First the trip out the rear axle dies. I located a 6 lug 14 bolt for the rear. I not looking to up size the tires. But the front axle is the question? I have a heavy right foot and put about 2500 lbs of gear in the truck. I don't mind putting new shafts in the axle and upgrading the front diff. But is that enough?

I would rather not buy new wheels and tires....

If you are talking about running 6k+lbs of truck with a heavy foot, I would upgrade to 1ton axles. If you don't you will probablay end up doing it later anyways.

14 bolt six lug has 33 spline axles , huge bearings , and big drum brakes . Only thing really better on a 1 ton 14 bolt is the full floater stuff , and disc brakes on the six lug cures that and weighs less :thumb:

If you chuck an axle on a six lug 14 bolt with 36's , I would be very suprised .

1 ton+ load in a 1/2 ton truck. I think you should carry less, or updrade to 1 ton drivetrain.

While I have the semi floater 14 bolt in site I could pick it up and run it in the 6 lug configuration, then after the front 10 bolt blows up I could replace the 10 bolt with a d60 and swap in 8 lug axles into the rear 14 bolt????Crazy?
