383 flex plate

I'm not trying to pee in your cheerios but just in case you didn't know.....

If you're talking about a stroker 383 chevy it won't really do anyone any good since it would have to be balanced with what ever engine someone is going to install it on. The weight that someone has already welded on will most likely not be correct for any other engine other than the one it was balanced with.

If that's where it's from then yes. On an external balanced engine like a 383 stroker you cannot balance the flexplat alone, it must be attached to the crank that it's going to be used with. The same goes for the harmonic balancer.

I just checked on summit racing and they don't show any for a 383 chevy that i could find. Did you mean 283?

aftewr researching the number agin it's listed as a 400 flex plate. which would make since as he was running a 400 crank and not a aftermarket kit.
also they are listed on summit for $52 to $77 so I guess I'll go $40 shipped or I'll just stash it incase I change my mind and want to go with an auto in the burb.

Well, glad you figured out what it was. Even if someone did build a 383 stroker using a factory 400 crank with the mains machined down the required .200" a 400 flexplate would still need to be balanced with the rest of the rotating assembly. The factory weight on the flexplate would not be correct for a 383 is what i'm saying.

That is good to know since I have 2 of those flexplates too, one new never used and one used in a stroker 383.
