My 383 has angle plug heads on it and is a full roller motor. I am running smog-legal Doug Thorley tri-y's on it that were off my 400 smallblock and they just don't fit right. I had to dimple a few of the tubes to get the plugs and boots in and it will burn through select plug boots once every 6 months or so. What headers should I try and run on this engine? I like the 3/8" flanges, a want a full length design, and want to switch to larger primarys (what size?) and dual exhaust so it can breath better. Suggestions..thanks.

I am running hooker headers on my 383 that is in my Jimmy right now. They are made for a '69 Camaro with a 350 since the motor was in my '56 Chevy truck that I put a camaro subframed. I just swapped it into my trail rig to break it in until I can get some time to start working on the old truck again. They fit nicely in both applications and no issues with clearance.

You can get hookers that are designed for angle plug applications...I have a set on my small block 69 camaro, using them with my '461' fuelie heads w/ angle plugs..

What are the specs/part numbers on those headers? I was thinking that I wanted 1 3/4" primaries and 3" collectors, but can't seem to find those for smallblocks on any site...maybe I was wrong. I also couldn't view the pictue attached. Thanks for your help so far.

1 3/4" primary tubes are way too big for a SBC. You don't need anything larger than a 1 5/8" primary tube with a 3 1/2" collector.

I found my hookers in a hooker master catalog.. jegs or summit should be able to help you when you call. whoever you talk to, be very specific with your needs and application..

also check out dynomax.. they should have angle plug compatible headers, and those are sent to jet hot for coating before they are sold..

and ditto on the smaller tubes being better.. larger tubes give you fitment problems, and can make getting to the plugs even more difficult.. in addition to being not what you need for your application..

Sweet, thank you. What collector size would be good? I am running single 3" exhaust right now, but I am thinking of going to dual. What size is preferred for a well breathing 383?

I read that...I was just surprised there were 1 5/8" primary headers with 3 1/2" collectors. The Thorely and Hooker websites don't show them...
