So here's my dilemma.... I want to gt rid of this 305 that came with the Blazer. Seals are going out and I just cant justify spending any extra money on this engine where I want to upgrade later anyway.
So was doing some checking around...

There is a Guy in town who has what he believes is either a 383 or a 350. $100.00 Cash money and its mine. It is complete but when he pulled it it turned over freely just couldnt get it to crank.

Do I pick it up? What if it is a 383 instead of a 350.... Just as reliable?

Let me know What you engine guys think because I have NO Friggin Clue at this point.

i bored my 350 (383+camwith allumium rolling rocker arms 202 heads, forged rods an crank, 5.7 pistons high torque starter, edelbrock650, performer intake, 4 core radiator with a 400) i havent had any problems i started from the ground up an am definately happy with it. if you have the $ i say yay
good luck :)

If it turns freely but won't crank, you mean it will not turn with the starter or it will not try to start?
If the starter is turning it freely and there is no compression, it could be something simple and it could be something bad liek a hole in a piston, or more.
Please tell what you mean so we can elaborate more.
If the engine is in decent shape and could be running with some elbow grease, $100 is a steel wether it's a 350 or 383.

Yup cant go wrong with a hundred bucks, worst case ontario you will have a core if everything else is toast :waytogo:

I dont know Much just what he told me over the phone.

1. He said ti would turn freely but when tried to start with the "key" in the ignition nothing.... So it could be a bad dist, Starter, who knows.

It was in a 77 Chevy, He pulled it out to put in a Race car. All he did was just any wires or hoses going to it unbolted it and took it out.

And that's the extent of my knowledge about it at this point.

Im going to go over and look at it Tomorrow morning. But I Have to make a decision then because there are 4 other people in line behind me to look at it. (all Race car drivers that want it for their modified's)

Totally true....

Worst case scenario, you could make a totally sweet table! :thumb:

gotta love the "2 other people want this, you gotta give me your answer now, sales technique"
if its a 383 and the block is good, its worth the c-note in grind work alone.

That is the coolest table I have ever seen and my wife just totally said yes to me making one.
Got a link to where you found this or is it yours?

As far as the motor goes, I agree that 350 or 383 would be a steel at $100, especially if its complete. And if a 383 is properly built it should be just as reliable.

For a hundred bucks I'd be real suspicious that there might be some more severe issues than just that it won't start, but like others have said, for that price it doesn't really matter if the engine is any good.

Prices like that are common in this area, Alot of guys have motors sitting around to put in their race cars, and up until last year when scrap metal prices went through the roof people in the area sold old pick ups for cheap.
