383 Timing?

I need to set the timing on my 383 since the distributor came loose, but it has never been right. The engine has a Victor Jr. intake, MSD ignition, Edelbrock 750cfm carb., .520” lift cam, full roller valvetrain, and I typically run 89 octane. Stock setting is 4 deg. Where should I start, I was thinking 8 deg?

start at 4, and turn it till it counds right... runs right?
