ok my buddy is gonna give me 4 superswamer 38x12.5-15 tsls, my question is will a 15x8 rim work? another buddy of mine has 15x8s he can sell me for cheap. the superswamper site says use 15x10 or 12 but this truck is a trail only rig, it is a k5 blazer with a pickup cab 14ff and 10b, he says he has seen people do it, just wondering if anyone here has?

thanks in advance
Steve

Should be fine. I run 38.5x14.50-15 on 15-9 wheels.

my thought process is that the tire is "squished" or compressed, the bead atleast, and thus it *should* hold better.

Thats what I've thought as well.

I run a 12.50 wide tire on an 8" wide rim.

I know you said it's trail only, but it will effect the stability of the ride. With a taller sidewall it will have more side-to-side flex and a narrower footprint, the wider the rim the less flex and more footprint (traction). Think of squeezing a balloon from equal sides between your two index fingers.
And Lord help you if you have to let air out of your tires for more traction. Just something to think about.

Lord help you? What will happen?

I run the same set up. 38/12.5/15 Bias TSL's on 8 inch rims. I get full tread contact on the road at 20 PSI (sorry don't know what my truck weighs). On the trail I run 10 PSI. I wouldn't recomend going wider than 8" for a trail truck for the reasons already mentioned. The pic is of them at 20 PSI.

the wider a tire, and the narrower the rim, the easier it is for the tire to stay on the rim for more traction. when you air down it will get more traction and keep it on the rim.
