Does the cross member have to be removed? you sprayed it white

Yes and no.

I am running the cross braces to strengthen the steering box and they will not work on the front 2wd crossmember(not the engine x-member). BTW, that is the ORD x-member in the back.

I am still hunting a 4x4 front crosmember, locally.

I need to blasty ord unit, bolt it up, then bolt up my new front porch bumper, ans then I can cut that first crossmember out.

Oh gotcha, I'm going to make my own steering brace so it's not a problem with me, I'll my my own engine cross member too

If you need a 4x4 cross member, I'm going to be scrapping my 4x4 down the road

Well well, it has been some time since I posted some pics.......

With that said I have been contemplating cutting OUT my outer wheel wells and moving them up about 2-3".

Unless you are a hot rodder too, then you may be confused....pics to follow:


I started with the Driver's rear.

Taped area is what is going to be removed.

Metal strip removed.

Now I needed to make the two vertical cuts to remove the wheel well.

Inside Wheel well.

Here you can see the area where the wheel well meets the rocker after the wheel well has been moved up.

Here is the wheel well removed.

Wheel well inside.

In it's "FINAL" resting place.

Look MOM no Rockers!

The fronts should be easier, but that remains to be seen!!!!!!

Thanks, traded a Dana 60 for them and some 40" rollers on split rims....

good to see you online, The dana 60 is still occupying space in my garage, haven't had time to get it under my K5 yet either

I had an extra 53" tire, so I cut it in half for mock up purposes........

BTW, I am trying to lift the vehicles as little as possible and so far I have gotten away with not having to use about 8" extra of spring lift......

It is weird I have been rebuilding a project house and have not done any fabrication work with metal in months and I jumper right into this on a whim on Sunday and it is some of the best work I have done.

Everything fits GREAT and I hope to do some more this weekend!
