If anyone has a 4.3 equipped truck (and i know this is not popular in blazers) or has had a 4.3 truck, could you take a look and see if the starter is equipped with a front brace?

1) My reman block (chevrolet performance #12361243) has no hole on the block for the brace.

2) So i decided i would run without one for a while and then eventually get a mini-starter----thinking the mini starter would not need a front brace.

3) However, i had to get a new starter fast, due to the old starter going out. And i decided to go with a conventional starter because i didn't have time to research mini-starters. And i want to make sure i'm doing it right----if these trucks are or aren't supposed to have a front brace?

4) Would a 262 CID engine "need" a front brace?

I've only had one small block V8 that still had the front brace on the starter to the block...judging by how many V8's never had one or they were left off the first time the starter was removed without issues,I'd say you don't have much to worry about..far as I know even the high torque "mini-starters" dont use one either...

On a 6.2 or 6.5 the brace IS important, especially on the old direct drive Delco starter that weighs double what the gear reduction type does-both need the brace for the weight and the fact the higher compression, and torque of the powerful starters, puts a much greater strain on the starter bolts..
