4.3 to 5.7 swap on a 93 K1500

So, Patty's current DD is a nice little K1500 with a 4.3/4L60E/NV241 its a great little truck but the mileage isn't as good as I expected and the power sucks. but for her uses it was fine.


well we let a buddy borrow it and it came back with a rod knock :doah: Its still drivable for her short commute of less then 2 miles so she is just babying it and using my Crew Cab for longer trips.

I was gonna replace the engine with a longblock but the cheapest I've found is about 1500.00 bucks and I don't really want to spend that kind of money on a "stock replacement"

I have a 91 R3500 I just started to part out that has a 60,000 mile 5.7 it has a Edelbrock intake,mild cam, throttle body spacer,Injector spacer,salad bowl,Serpentine conversion, IFS truck headers,Gear reduction starter,Jet Stage 2 chip and 3" exhaust with Magnaflow muffler.

In the R3500 it got 16mpg and had plenty of power.

I want to swap this engine in to the IFS truck. I'm thinking the only thing I would have to do is swap chips in the computer and the engine should bolt in and run with no issues. other then changing fan shrouds ( which I have from another truck I parted out) and adding the oil filter adapter


Anything I'm missing our forgot about??
 
The 4L60 "E"

I'm no expert but I'm thinking the chip from the 91 will not operate the trans. :dunno:
 
The 91 has a 4L80E


AND I'm not changing the computer just the chip that has the engine parameters , I could be totally off but I'm hoping i'm on the right track
 
You'll have to put the 4l80e in with the 5.7L as well as the PCM from the 91 as the transmission connectors and speed sensors are not the same between the two.

Otherwise, bolt in swap!
 
The 4L80E is not an option, nor is any of the harness or computer from the R3500

I can't just swap chips in the 93's computer???
 
Im just looked up the ECM's for a 93 with a 4.3 and 4l60E and a 93 with a 5.7 and a 4L60E they both list the same part number the for the ECM,


Is this info wrong???
 
Hmmm, I would think just swap the chip, but I'm interested to see what the conclusion will be.
Maybe a chip from another5.7/ 4L60 truck? Or a burned chip?

You'd have to confirm the pin outs, but I suppose it is entirely possible it will work!

I'll have to see if my Jet Stage 2 chip from the 91 will work in the 93 , if not I'll just have to buy another chip or have one burned
 
Well finally got around to this swap, it was a direct swap no issues at all
 
No lol we have had other rigs to drive. But I was impressed how long the 4.3 held out
