I haven't gotten any help on the S10 forums, it seems if I don't want to lower the truck and put 20's on it....they have no idea.

I'm working on a 95 S10 with a 4.3 Vortec. The owner brought it to me with a blown motor (knock). The replacement motor is from a 94 S10 Blazer, also a Vortec. IIRC, the Vortecs started in 94.

I've gotten both motors out and have them sitting next to each other. Other than some of the sensors being in differn't places there aren't many differances. That's untill I come to the crank sensor, the 94 motor does not have one. The 95 has the sensor mounted in the timing cover. What trigers the sensor? I was down at Napa talking with them, the crank gear is the same for both motors. The balancer has differn't part numbers, but they couldn't pull up a picture (just a generic balancer picture came up). Is it the actual crank that trigers it? Or might there be a plate or wheel pressed under the gear?

It seems 94/95 are the odd ball years for this motor.

If this motor won't work. Would a 96+ motor work? I know they have composite intakes (both of these are aluminum). But would it have the correct sensor?

I don't want to go any farther until I figure this out. Thanks

I'm pretty sure there is a reluctor ring under the cover as well as the standard timing components. You should be able to swap covers and the reluctor ring from the original engine to the donor engine.

Thanks, thats what I figured.

I called the owner after I discoverd this and told him. He called me a few minutes ago and decided to rebuild his old motor instead of putting the used one in.

Thanks agian.
