I read somewhere the 4.8 and the 5.3 use the same block.

Does this mean I can take a 5.3 crank and rods and put them in my 4.8 block and have a 5.3?

Will I need the pcm from a 5.3 to do this?

Or should I just get a 5.3 to start with.....

Yes they are the same block the crank is the only difference. You would be better off keeping the 4.8 pistons though, they are flat tops and when a 5.3 crank is added it makes a higher compression 5.3. You can use the same computer it just needs to be re flashed to a 5.3 tune.

Hmmmm

My 4.8 has @ 215k and could use a rebuild. This looks doable for cheap (relatively speaking :D)

I'm guessing I keep the rods from the 4.8?

Thanks for the info. I love this place:bow::bow:

So the 4.8 is just a destroked 5.3? That's interesting... I'd have figured the same crank and rods, just a smaller bore.

That's what I was thinking, based on the older 5.0/5.7 liter motors...

you know your getting old when 4.8L and 5.3L have taken the place of good old 327's and 350's.....damn kids....
