For anyone that has installed ord suspension. Did you have to inboard your steering box so tire would clear?
 
No, I'm running 14 inch kings with factory box location. Ride height is center of the shaft of the shock.
 
Why would changing the suspension cause tire to steering box clearance?


I could imagine that a fully-stuffed DS tire, combined with a fully-drooped PS tire.... and the wheels cranked hard right against the steering stops could rub....

Whether that would be possible with the ORD kit specifically, I have no idea. :dunno:


I moved my steering box inside the framerail and am happy to report that the tire does not hit it at ALL....

Most people don't.

As Greg mentioned, you almost need to have the perfect storm of big tires (40"+), lots of backspacing and sometimes you can get the tire into the shock at full articulation (and have to inboard the shock more, needing the zig zag steering shaft).
 
I would think the back of the right tire would hit the arm before the front of the left would hit the box.

What size tire and wheel combo and what the the back spacing?
 
4.25 back spacing. It only has 38's now but will have 42 or43' s. With full articulation it rubs with axle one inch ahead of stock. Wanting to run a bigger tire without having to cut the firewall I decide to move the Axel ahead about 5 inches. So I decided to cut the frame and move the box.
 
I had to move the box on my blazer when we coiled it back in '01 but it was a TOTALLY different system than we build now with a LOT more axle steer and I think that was a major contributor to the problem. We haven't had any problems with the stock box location with our kit systems. Our Convertible K30 has the box pushed forward a couple inches to get the tire away from the firewall but it's moved straight forward and still on the outside of the frame. Unless you really look you can't even tell it's moved actually.
 
So I don't understand why I am having to do so. The only thing I can think of is I am trying to keep the ride height low. Don't know? I have the stacked frame brackets not the high clearance ones. Does that make a difference?

Post some detailed photos of your installation... :deal:

If there are any mistakes or unusual issues, CK5 guys will find it. I'm always amazed how much people here can identify from a couple of photos.

I designed a custom steering box mount and mounted it inboard....not because I had clearance issues, but because I chopped that part of the frame off:hack::rotfl:
 
I would say your pan hard frame mount bracket is a bit out there? Don't know if that's causing any clearance issues but that steering box mount is very similar to how I mounted mine. Except I doubled up the plate and replicated a boxed frame mount.

The bracket is the one supplied. It makes the panhard bar the same length as the draglink. I wondered the same thing until I saw what they were trying to do. The frame is not completed yet.
 
The one of my truck is considerably shorter and within a inch or so of the drags link. Yes it is supposed to be the same length but from my understanding as long as it is the same angle that is most important. Looking at your picture you have a dropped pitman arm which is why your Panhard bar is lower mounted on the frame. I went tucked up as much arms possible to keep the tires away.

Yes the pitman has 3 1/2 " drop I need the 1 1/2. As it contacts the pan hard at full compression. It doesn't have any affect on the mount though. Remember my axel is 5" forward. That is why the steering box looks in a different location.
 
The panhard mount is at the same level on the frame as if the axel were to be in the stock location.
 
I believe mine is pushed forward to but not sure how far, went from a 2wd to 4wd. I get real close to the drag link, tiered and Panhard but I think the 2wd frame has a little to do with it along with how much bump travel I wanted.

That certainly changes things then. I would say your issue is stemming from that not changing suspension type. That being said an inch is a mile and I dont exactly see anything touching there.


Also it would require you reworking your panhard mount but you could go to an astro van box. I did that on my build.
 
4.25" backspace isn't out of line but boggers are about as bad a tire for this clearance as you can get. A 42" TSL might actually clear better! Where is your axle located laterally at full stuff? Or even at ride height? You could shorten the panhard to move the tire away from the box and it would be fine. Changing the length that much won't be noticable. It might leave the axle off center at ride height but it's rare to find a truck with the axle actually centered these days so it really doesn't matter a lot. It also looks like you've done most of the work in moving the box in which also solves the problem.
