Will the front suspension from an '82 1 ton 2wd adapt to an '85 1/2 ton 4wd frame? I know the rear frame width is different but I am not sure about the front. I know you might think this is a silly question but I've got an idea I think you guys might like for a tow rig... It's a secret though. :D

use the search, alot of 2wd swaps, im in the middle of one, yes it will drill a few holes here and there

The frame is different on a 1 ton vs a 1/2 or 3/4 ton which yielded no usable search results.

This isn't Pirate and I'm not a noob. :p:

To be different.

I'll have bigger brakes, an improved ride, lowered COG and only have to source one 4.56 geared 14 bolt. I should also save weight, which will save fuel, which will allow me to spend more on my trail rig. :waytogo:

When have you ever seen a 1 ton 2wd K5 tow a 1 ton 4wd Truggy? I know I haven't but I'd like to be the first to do it. :D

why the short wheelbase tho? thats my only worry about it.

Im a little worried that its too short but since I've towed with short bed pickups before (which are only about 13" longer)... it should be safe.

Plus my truggy only weighs 4,500lbs fully loaded down. :wink1:

I would do this, but shorten your rear overhang and put you hitch as close to the axle as possible to put less leverage on your truck to keep more weight on the front, or use a weight distributing hitch and you'll be fine.
If the trucks are from the same era, the 2wd stuff front will bolt to a K5.
Too bad you are not closer, I would sell you my 2wd 1 ton frame with suspension still on that you can shorten and put your K5 on.

By the way the rear frame width is not different, just the hangers.
You can swap hangers from the 1 ton and put a 1 ton axle on there.
