I am wondering what it would take to convert a 4x4 into a 2wheel drive. Has any one done it or have any helpfull links or suggestions? I want a 2wd blazer and can find 4x4s much cheaper. I would also like to brag that I converted one over:D

Yea, i figured on a nut bashing!:doah: I am wanting a lowered/ slammed one sitting next to my lifted beater on 38's

why?..............had to give you a hard time:D. but i think the 2wd k5's are cool also. if i ever finish my 86 i think i may build a nasty big block, boosted 2wd next. anyway i think the best route would be to aquire the k5 and a 2wd pickup (much more common and cheap). and start swapping. for some reason i think their are some frame differences but i have only owned 1 2wd and i only had i for a short time so i am not sure. i am sure with a little fab work the swap should be doable.

On a 2WD truck the whole front crossmember with ALL suspension attached just unbolts from the frame. I'd be surprised if all the holes weren't already in the blazer frame. Regardless, just buy a parts truck and unbolt the complete front crossmember with all the suspension and either simply just bolt it up or if the holes aren't in the frame then position it correctly and weld it in.

I got a family of 4 and a regular cab wont do. I am thinking what you are, big blocked, slammed and real clean. Not just a hammered ol blazer

How about starting with a factory 2wd K5 (C5?)? Seems like the easier way to go. Being out in AZ you should be able to find a decent one to start with.

Edit: I just re-read the original post...so if you can find a clean 4x4, and a beat up 2wd cheap. Then it should be just a matter of parts swapping.

I still think you would be better off starting with a 2wd since your best bet would be to find one as a donor for the parts.

Unless you can get with one of the reproduction shops and get the front end parts from them. I like the idea though. I would like a diesel one to commute with.

Find a guy who wants to convert his 2WD to 4WD and have him over for the weekend.

So you're telling me you can't find a 2WD truck anywhere? Around here they are literally ALL OVER the place.

I say buy a 2wd to begin with. If not, find someone that has one (like said before) but just trade instead of swaping parts. Or do what 4x4high suggested. Easy Peezy!

I dig lowered K5 2wd's. My bud had a bad ass 81' slammed on Budnik 17's when they were the BIG wheel. His ride was all white, with blacked out windows. Custom interior, it was a nice truck.
