What're the differences between a regular 3/4t D44, and a D44HD? Honestly, never heard of that, so....??? Anyone really know?

The differences I have run across between the 1/2T and 3/4T is the axle tube thickness 3/8" and 1/2" and the extra ribbing on the diff itself along with extra material in the casting.

No, I'm not comparing half ton to 3/4 ton..... I'm asking about 3/4 ton to HD.

The simple answer is tube thickness.

Between a 3/4 ton D44 & D44HD things like bearings, r&p, axles, rotors, etc are all the same. The differences are strictly in the housing itself.

The hd's were 'early model' from '71 to i think 74 or 5. They had 6 long allen bolts that hold the locking hub on. [That is the easiest way to tell] The axles tubes are 5/8 inch thick, they also took a larger inner wheel bearing. The spindles are different than the others in relation to the seal surface v. inner bearing offset. The hubs themselves were also different because of the inner bearing.
