This sounds like it should go in the "for sale" section, but I don't think it quite qualifies.

I may have posted this here before, if so, I apologize.
My cousin, baitfish2 has a medium sized Winnebago motor home. Its got a low milage 440 Dodge engine in it. When he cranked it last and drove it to my farm, it did not smoke and had power.
The carb was clogged, and the valve covers leaked a bunch, but the engine sounded fine.
Its driven its last mile, unless someone were to buy it and try to fix it up. That is not going to happen, because of high gas prices and the fact that you could get a better one cheap.

So, he is going to have it hauled off for scrap.
Its of no monetary difference to me either way, but I hate to see that motor get melted down.
They don't make them like that anymore, and it should be in really good shape.

I tried to shop it around here some, but everybody that was interested backed out when they found out it was in a motor home. I explained to them that the motor home did not have to survive the experience, and in fact we could chop a hole in the roof and lower the hook from my boom truck in to lift it out if they wanted.

He is making noises about finding someone to come get the whole thing, so I figured I would ask here.
NOT trying to sell it to anyone here, although if someone did want it, I would tell him.
Mainly I was hoping that some of the folks here either knew enough about that engine or knew people that ran them and could tell me whether or not to keep fighting for it.

I have stalled him off for a while, but unless someone tells me its worth the fight, I'm going to let it go the next time he brings it up.

I would post it for sale here, but I am so far out of the way from most of the brotherhood, its not worth the effort for someone to come get it.

As for price, like I say, I'm not selling it, and would not make a penny off of it if he did, but I'm sure anything over scrap value he would take.

On a related note, I just remembered that it has a dual wheel axle under the rear. Almost certainly a FF.
No idea what kind or size. It seems to me that Dodge liked Dana, but not sure.

If anyone thinks it worth the effort, I will try to machete my way to the back side and stick my camera under to try to get a shot of the cover and whatever critters might be living under it..........

Wow! I'm kinda surprised there have'nt been any takers. A 440 is becoming a rare bird nowadays and a lot of mopar guys would probably love to have it for a resto or just to hop it up. They're just not as plentiful as say a chevy 350. Just because it came in a motor home doesnt mean its scrap fodder. I personally know of a guy who has a couple sitting in his garage that he plans to use "eventually". I can ask him for you and in the mean time, maybe shop it around on a mopar forum and see what they have to say. If you cant get any interest there you probably wont get any anywhere. In all honesty I would try to save it. That can be a potent motor with the right parts in the mopar world.

I agree, a 440 out of a motorhome is a good motor. They usually have not been abused like the car and truck ones. The RV models also have extra cooling passages in the heads.

Might be a good idea to check the engine codes to ensure its really a 440---many motor homes came with a 413 V8 thats practically identical, and are industrial duty rated ...guy I know had a 70's Travco motor home that was supposed to have a 440 in it,but it turned out to be a 413 ,and it was the original engine...it also had a huge dually rear axle the same as a school bus or 1-1/2 ton truck would have had back then...................................................................................................I'd think someone would want it for an old Mopar hot rod, they are getting rare here, old trucks and motor homes are about the only ones available around here now..................................................................................I saw a Winnebago recently someone got free off craigslist, that had a large tree fall on the rear half of it,crushed it flat--they chopped the thing off about 10 feet behind the cab, closed it in,and put a sliding Chevron ramp truck body on the back of it!...the guy goes down south with it looking for reasonably priced muscle car projects and hauls them back here at a healthy profit...he can still sleep and cook in the shortened cabin section,I thought it was pretty cool...
