$450 for 2.5\" duals w/ three-chamber flowmasters *Update* It\'s on!

That's the price the guy quoted me.
Anyone think I'm getting a good deal?
I think I'm getting an average deal, because the local muffler guy wanted about $600 for the same thing.
Had to drive about 15 miles with no exhaust except for manifolds (eh, what'd you say?) but it's being done right now.

Thats is about what I paid for my true duals with highflow cats & mufflers. I think I paid about $425 two years ago.

Re: $450 for 2.5\" duals w/ three-chamber flowmasters

probably about right 3 chamber 50 series flowmasters are like $110.00-$120.00 a piece in summit plus shipping and installation.

Re: $450 for 2.5\" duals w/ three-chamber flowmasters

Sounds Ok to me! You got a pretty fair deal. Around here, I was quoted up to $700 for the same setup. I found a guy that did it for about what you paid.

Re: $450 for 2.5\" duals w/ three-chamber flowmasters

I would consider that a good deal.

I just paid $400 to have hooker shorties installed, Y pipe custom made, 2 1/2" pipe to a 3" cat, to a 50 series flowmaster, to dual 2 1/4" tail pipes.

I brought the headers, cat, and muffler with me. The charge was just to install it all, and for the fabrication of the custom Y pipe and tail pipe routing.

when you go to get pipes for a new exhaust system..say for my 84..(blazer) do they have to custom make the pipes or something, who does it? if i could get all the right parts i could put it on myself..i would want 2.5 pipes and probobly a dynomax superturbo or something like that..(cause they have life time warrenty) no cats..could i get everything right from the autoparts store? thanx

Re: $450 for 2.5\" duals w/ three-chamber flowmasters

I tried the put it on yourself once.
No matter what I did, it leaked.
I am so tired of leaky exhaust.
Yes, they will custom bend it for the vehicle.
You can buy premade exhausts like in JCW, about $200 I think. 2 1/4 dual system.

I want the shop to put it on because if it leaks, it will be them fixing it.

Sounds like a good deal to me. Might wanta get some headers while you're having new exhaust put on.

Re: $450 for 2.5\" duals w/ three-chamber flowmasters

well ill have to do it as i cant afford to have a shop do it when im cabable of doing it..my dads a mechanic to so he can help me out...how much about would it run for dual 2.5 pipes for a k5 you think? plus two dynomax muff's..no need for cats..headers will come later..but that would mean id have to change the pipes for them to fit it right?

I just scrapped the dinky truck manifold and put on 2.5" ram horn manifolds. That was the reason I needed to get the exhaust done right away.
It was leaking before, but still functional *cough*.
But since putting the ram horns on, I had to get it done.

Call at least 2 or 3 muffler shops in the area and emphasize y ou are looking for a budget job and see what price they give.
The absolute cheapest way to do it is to get the exhaust kit they sell in JCW. Tim (I think his usename is 84Chevy or 84k10 or something like that) has that kit and he likes it a lot.

Re: $450 for 2.5\" duals w/ three-chamber flowmasters

You can do it yourself, but I wanted all the pipes custom bent to my truck. I chopped the rear quarters off up to the molding strip, and wanted the tail pipes to exit as close to the body as I could get it. Also, I installed the shorty headers so the Y pipe could be made to go under the oil pan.

The end result is an exhaust that is so far tucked up, that there is no way it will ever come in contact with an obstacle. Looking under the truck, you can't see any piece of the exhaust. The tail pipes actually exit so high up, when looking at the rear of the truck, the bumper hides the pipes /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My philosophy is do it once, do it right, and (hopefully) never do it again.

Re: $450 for 2.5\" duals w/ three-chamber flowmasters

Just got it back.
At idle, it is very quiet.
At medium throttle, it is louder but still very reasonable.
At much more than medium throttle, it's like you chopped the mufflers off because they aren't doing anything - loud!

I like it a lot, total price w/tax was $454 and change.
If I did anything different at this point, it would be to use even quieter mufflers.

Note:
I had some pinging on my drive home and I attributed it to that flowmaster ping you get sometimes.
I opened the hood and noticed one of the mechanics had broken a spark plug! The wire was just hanging there, somewhat unusually placed so that it wouldn't fall on the manifold and singe the wire. Hmmm, you tell me, but a new R45TS is like $2, so I'm not complaining.
It runs better on 7 cyclinders with the exhaust than it did on 8 with just manifolds.
