Is there a difference in the block between an 85 and an 89 454? I know about the TBI in 87, just wondering if I get an 85 block I can adapt it to all the FI stuff of an 89.

Thanks for any info.

The motor that is in my 89 was identical to the motor that was in my old truck, the motor itself was an 81 or 82.

IIRC all BBC's were gen IV from 1965-1990, starting in 1991 came the gen V and 1996 came the gen VI BBC.

Q for those who have done 350 -> 454 TBI Swap

OK, the questions are going to start flowing now! (can't search for old posts so sorry for any repeats)

Those that have completed the 350 to 454 TBI swap, How did you modify your exhaust to match up to the 454? I am talking about stock manifolds and stock Y pipe. Not going to use headers on the Burb.

Thanks for any info!

That's an easy one. Cut off the existing Y-pipe and drive or tow your rig to a muffler shop and have them make you a new Y-pipe and weld it up. :thumb:

I have a question about this. If a 1991 square bodied V-series truck had a BB 454 TBI, would it have been a Gen IV or a Gen V engine? Also, which Generation BB first came with Vortec Heads?

1991 should be a gen V engine and the first vortec should be a gen VI engine starting in 1996.

What of the fact that all the V-series trucks came with a part #71140 ECM, which is the ECM used to control Gen IV BB 454 TBI engines.
