I can get a 454 from an 80's G7000 GMC box truck for free. I have a 350 now, both my 350 and this 454 need to be rebuilt which motor should I go with? I'm going to be using 14FF D60, TH400, NP205 and 39x18s. Basically I'm wondering what everything thinks the pros and cons are to each motor in my truck.. thanks

run the casting #s on the block. the big trucks came with 366 junk blocks cant do anything with. and also 427 good builder and if tall deck 427 great builder. can make a long rod 454 or strocker 496 out of it. 454 didnt realy come in them stock that i have heard of.

X2 , True , so true . That type of truck should not have a 454 as O.E.M. . The T/D motors have heads that ABSOLUTELY run out of flow around 3,600 RPM's or so . They were designed to have a power curve similar to a diesel and are all bottom end. You will be disapointed if expecting any power in the mid range .

wasnt really aware they would put such a small motor in such a big truck. Ill ive done so far is pop the hood of a massive truck see its not diesel and see a really big motor, assumed its a 454... Will get the #s...
