Hey guys, there's a few of us here at work debating whether there are structural differeces in different 454's specifically.

So is there a difference between a 454 out of a passenger vehicle vs a light truck (ie Suburban). What about blocks out of larger vehicles?

My buddy wants to source a 454 for a rebuild in a as of now undecided muscle car and wants to buy the 'right' block.

There are no differences in the blocks unless you talk about GEN IV versus GEN V or GEN VI.

Cars and light trucks are the same things. I've had a couple 454s, and they all say the pass/high perf thing. If it says truck, then it's a tall deck, not all parts interchange.

There was never a tall deck 454 only 366 and 427's.

Thanks for the input.

He was told by mechanic otherwise, but I was pretty certain that wasn't right.

I assume the mechanic must have thought my buddy's intention was a straight rebuild :dunno:

only difference I can think of is 2 vs 4 bolt mains. Its a crapshoot what they are in. My 88 2wd burban that I got my 454 out of had 4 bolt mains and small heads, but then there will be a k30 of the same vintage w/ 2 bolts and large port heads. No pattern as to where to find a 4bolt block.
