im gonna be getting a hold of a complete 454 from an 83 chevy 1 ton. Complete with brackets etc etc carb to pan flywheel to fan. has a knock so im just gonna sell it to help recoup some of the cost of the truck. is asking 800 out of line?

Around here a rebuildable core 454 is worth $500.00 but knowing it has a rod knock you can deduct $100.00 from that. You said it does have all the brackets though so add that $100.00 back on again. I would be firm at $500.00 complete as you said it is.

It's worth as much as you can get out of it.Worth varies person to person.Price it high you can always go down.

I had one out of a 79 camper special that was complete breather and all,but of unknown cond and I got $600 for it.

A core to anyone wanting to rebuild is worth, as mentioned, $500, as-is, no brackets, accessories, etc.

I checked into a crate 454HO once and the business wanted the old motor for a core. Their core charge was $100 and I thought "what, thats it?" May as well keep the motor and pay the extra $100 and turn around to sell the motor for $500.

I just purchased a complete 454, carb, pan, complete serp. setup with compressor for $150.:D The guy wasnt very bright though and it had a hole on each side of the oil pan where it chuncked two rods. I turned it around and traded for two complete 350s that run with no knocks and minimal smoking.:wink1:

Judging by what I got out of mine with two rods missing I would say yours is worth at least $500.

and one more thing, we sell crate motors where I work and a 454 core charge is around $700.:eek1:
