I have a mark IV 454 that is running condition with a relativly fresh rebuild. It was a stock rebuild, and it is still sporting the peanut port heads that came with it stock. I am not interested in changing the pistons to bump up the compression, but I have a set of 049 heads that are just sitting here. Is it worth anything to swap the 049's on a stock motor? Or is it pointless unless I raise the compression?

How will you be using the motor? Low rpm crawler or high rpm bogger?

I'd prefer to have the 049's but if you'll be using the motor around 4500 rpm or less the peanuts will be ok.

It's definitely a trail truck, but I do like my wheel speed! I have head about the benefits of 049 heads, thats the reason I grabbed these ones when I found them, just didn't know if it was worth the time to swap them if I don't bump up my compression at the same time.

9 times out of 10 swapping the 049s will lower compression. They have 120cc chamber, if that. Need to find out what your current heads are. If they are the same, then you might notice an increase in power, but might not either.

I have been doing some research today, and from what I have gathered, I am best to wait until i am ready to redo the bottom end it seem's, and just run my peanut port heads for now.

Will I be able to run an intake intended for oval port heads on a peanut head motor for now?

Since the oval port intake runners are larger in dia than the peanut port heads, I believe fuel will puddle around the lower edges of the openings. I would wait.

well I have to get an intake eitherway, and don't want to end up having to buy 2. I don't know what else i can do other then go ahead and swap on the oval port heads. Any idea's on pumping the compression up, cheaply?
