Hi Ya

just bought an 89 winnibego with a 454 and it idles very rich. I have timed it, changed plugs twice, put on a good set of plug wires, rebuilt the carb twice, cant find a vacuum leak but there may be one.

Its been suggested the fuel pump may be sending too much, is this possible? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If the fuel pump had too much pressure it could over power the needle and seat and you would see fuel dripping out of the boosters. You try ajusting the air fuel mixture for the idle ajustment?Make sure your choke is working and ajusted properly and not flooding it.

Thank you Zombie, the air idle is working fine as well as the choke. I will try a new pump in the morning and see what happens.

Cheers ....Later ........Finlay

The problem was in the carb, two plugs in the top were leaking, so constantly feeding gas.At highway speeds it ran well but at stop signs and low speed it was very rich. Found a compatable top and everything is fine. Just an update in case it can help someone with the same problem.

Zombie 1969 Sorry for the slow response as I was away up north with no internet access. Lugnut was correct, it is a Rochester Quadrajet and it is still running good
