I am lookin at a 1989 1-ton chevy with a 454. My question is did 1-tons go to fuel injection at a later date then half-ton chevy's? I ask becaus the '89 454 is carburated on this truck...
87 TBI started in 454's, but I've heard some 87 and 88's were still carbed.I am lookin at a 1989 1-ton chevy with a 454. My question is did 1-tons go to fuel injection at a later date then half-ton chevy's? I ask becaus the '89 454 is carburated on this truck...

Good god, I wouldn't have to think twice about it.well it turns out it was tbi... I guess i shoulda looked at it first before jumping to conclusions. The guy that owns it thinks its a carb so i was just going on his word. truck ran good tho and he only wants $550 for it! body is rough but its a 454 4speed 4x4. I dont know if I'm ganna get it or not.

I've never personally seen a factory carb'er after 86. who knowsI have an 88 GMC 3500 with a carb and from what I have learned it was the last year a carb was offered, only 14% of them came with carbs.
I could take a picture?I've never personally seen a factory carb'er after 86. who knows

Not saying I dont believe you. Just never seen one.I could take a picture?![]()

the TBI 454's had a q-jet intake with an adapter for TBI. Remove the adapter and the carb will bolt right on. If you have a complete truck to rob parts from, why not keep the TBI.. And $550 is a steal.so if i were to get this truck the engine would be going in one of my shortbox '67 C/10's. I would probably want it carburated, so how hard is it to convert? What are the major things to know? $550 just seems like a really nice deal for a 454 that runs good, and I think he might go lower.
